Academics and Sports Program: Belt Loops and Pins
In addition to activities in the Cub Scout handbooks, the Academics and Sports Program provides additional activities for which Cub Scouts can earn recognition.
Scouts earn a belt loop to wear on their scout belt after completing the 3 specific requirements for each activity. Scouts can take part in three ways: (1) by yourself or with your family, (2) in your den or pack, or (3) in school.
Once Scouts have earned a belt loop, they can continue to do more with the activity by completing the given 5-7 extra requirements to earn a pin. Academics and Sports pins are displayed on the Academics and Sports letter, worn on the red vest. The letter does not go on the Cub Scout uniform. There are no special requirements for earning the letter, because it's just for displaying the pins.
Read about the requirements for earning each belt loop and pin on the Scouting.org web site. From that site, scroll down and click on a specific activity.
